In this Acrisure Employee Spotlight, we sat down with Emily Shatto to learn more about her role as a Client Advisor at Acrisure.

Emily joined Acrisure in May of 2024. In this spotlight, we invited her to share her background, career journey, and experience.

As a Client Advisor, Emily plays a key role in supporting valued clients and helping our organization continue to grow.

What first attracted you to a career as a Client Advisor, and why Acrisure specifically?

Honestly—I didn’t plan this career; I fell into it! When I started at a local agency, I knew nothing about insurance. I got licensed quickly and handled certificates for every client of that agency.

From there, I moved into an Account Manager role, then became an Account Executive, managing a portfolio of clients and diving deep into contract review. I was lucky to spend over a decade at Aon, working on client teams through big projects like M&A deals, spinoffs, and unique program placements of nuclear liability and complex foreign exposures.

This experience gave me a strong foundation and a knack for solving complex challenges.

Today, as a Client Advisor, I draw on that background to anticipate client needs and support my team. I believe in a servant-leadership approach—I’ll never ask for help on something I wouldn’t do myself.

What I love most? Listening to clients, simplifying the complicated, and building real relationships.

What does a typical day in your role look like?

There is no typical day! Depending on a client’s insurance program, we could be in a renewal strategy phase, meeting with underwriters and the client to determine their upcoming renewal, presenting a renewal, or holding a post-mortem to review the renewal process.  My day can also involve supporting the client with various needs based on their initiatives.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job as a Client Advisor?

Insurance and risk can feel overwhelming, so I love breaking it down in a way that makes sense for clients. I also enjoy being that go-to person—a trusted resource that Risk Managers, CFOs, and business owners feel comfortable reaching out to when they need clarity.

But honestly, what I love most are the relationships. Building real connections and helping clients solve problems together is what makes this role so rewarding.

What qualities separate a good Client Advisor from a great one at Acrisure?

Listening—really listening—to clients and building genuine relationships (even friendships!) is everything. It’s not just about placing insurance programs; it’s about understanding what matters most to them beyond the paperwork.

Another big piece is getting out there for loss control and site visits with your clients and carriers. These visits give you a firsthand look at how a client’s business really operates, which is the best way to understand their needs and make sure their insurance program fits perfectly.  It’s also an opportunity to see a day in the life of your client, learn about the challenges they face, and show that you’re more than a transactional partner—you’re invested in their success.

What has been your proudest moment or biggest win so far in this role?  

Securing an engagement with a key enterprise client has been my proudest moment.

Rapid Fire with Emily

First Job: Inside Sales Representative at Pratt & Whitney Canada troubleshooting and providing aircraft engine components to their European customers.

Go-to productivity hack: I have a favorite coffee shop that’s my go-to for getting things done. It helps me tune out office chatter and keeps me from getting distracted by anything when working from home. Plus, it has the perfect artsy vibe and the best coffee to keep me productive.

Pro tip: Pick the right spot, and you might just bump into a client or prospect!

Favorite way to celebrate a closed deal: I’ll admit—I’m not great at celebrating. Usually, it’s just a quick high five with a co-worker before diving back into work. Thankfully, my husband always makes up for it with a bottle of wine and flowers waiting at home whenever I land a big deal or wrap up a major client project.

Coffee order: It depends on my mood – either a straight black coffee or an almond milk latte.

Outside of work, what keeps you energized?

Outside of being a Client Advisor, my biggest pride is being a wife and mom to two amazing kiddos. Weekends are my time to recharge and refocus. Work can be demanding, and client needs sometimes spill into after-hours, so we make it a priority to reset as a family.

Our favorite thing? Getting outside—hunting for salamanders, frogs, or creating fairy gardens in the warm months, and each winter trying to make a better ice/hockey rink on our pond! Those simple moments outdoors help me reconnect and come back energized for the week ahead.

What would you say to someone considering a career in sales at Acrisure but unsure if it’s the right path?

If you’re unsure, spend a day shadowing a Client Advisor to see what the role is really like. Ask questions—don’t be afraid to learn from their experience. And if you’re still on the fence, consider starting on a path that leads to the Client Advisor role, just like I did.
