In 2021 the wholesale insurance market – and the London direct and facultative (D&F) sector in particular – proved both its ability and willingness to keep coming back. Speaking with leading publication Insurance Day, John Sutton, CEO of Acrisure London Wholesale, discusses the markets’ resilience despite losses and five key issues facing the London direct and facultative market in 2022. Those include:
1. Climate change
2. Bermuda’s increased role as a global player
3. Ratings
4. Electronic trading
5. Broker consolidation
Said Sutton: “Looking ahead to 2022, the market will provide sufficient capacity once again. I see no lines where we are out of capacity. True, it may be expensive and buyers may have to retain more risk themselves, but it is a credit to the D&F insurance market that it is still there at all after the losses endured over the past several years and is set to continue from strength to strength in 2022.”
